Exporter of the Year award for James Walker
“The awards are open to businesses of any size with a significant presence in the South Cheshire region and this pitched us against tough competition particularly from blue-chip global names such as Bentley and a number of other large multi-national organisations plus specialist businesses with strong export credentials”, explains international sales manager Tim Richards.
“The judges assessed every aspect of our export activities both in a written submission and through direct questioning. Their questions covered our products and services, the ways in which we research overseas markets, the value of our exports, new opportunities we have targeted and any export specific training programmes we offer and undertake.”
Although the award was organised by the South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce, the assessment also encompassed the work done by the company’s manufacturing and logistics teams in Cockermouth in supporting the overall export achievements of the business.
As part of a continuing strong export performance over recent years, James Walker has experienced significant growth within the Chinese market and during 2011 has established businesses in the rapidly expanding Brazilian and Indian markets; The Brazilian venture initially focusing on the metallurgical, oil and gas and energy industries whilst in India a new, purpose-built manufacturing facility will help service the huge Asian and Far Eastern markets.
This expansion is part of the James Walker Group focus on emerging markets, where the business is investing in new companies and people in order to provide the necessary manufacturing and distribution facilities required to service its expanding global presence.
James Walker designs and manufactures innovative sealing systems and components for critical applications in industries as varied as oil & gas, power generation, biopharmaceutical, and defence and aerospace. Against a background media focus on global recession, the company has made significant growth in recent years both within the UK and particularly overseas as core markets such as the wind energy, oil and pharmaceutical industries continue to expand.
